Gaza Awaits Three WHO Medical Aid Trucks

(MENAFN) Three vehicles loaded with essential drugs and healthcare equipment are anticipated to enter the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to the local Health Ministry.

The region’s hospitals are grappling with a surge in casualties and a severe shortage of resources as a result of Israel’s unrelenting aerial campaign that began in October 2023.

The delivery, facilitated by the World Health Organization (WHO), comprises “no food items but include urgently needed materials to continue life-saving care for the wounded and sick across Gaza’s battered healthcare system,” the ministry announced.

These supplies are critical for sustaining emergency treatment efforts in a health infrastructure that has been heavily damaged.

Officials have called on all relevant entities to “ensure the convoy’s protection and enable its safe and uninterrupted arrival to hospitals,” emphasizing the importance of securing a humanitarian corridor for this delivery.

Gaza’s medical system is teetering on the edge of total breakdown, with facilities stretched beyond their limits and facing critical shortages of basic medical necessities due to Israel’s prolonged blockade and continuous strikes.

As per data from the WHO, only 18 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are still partially operational. Additionally, over 10,000 individuals are in urgent need of medical evacuation from the area.
