BREA, CA, UNITED STATES, August 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Community advocate Andrew Herrera has announced his candidacy for the 2026 Brea City Council election, launching a campaign centered on supporting small businesses, strengthening Brea's local economy, and ensuring the city remains one of Orange County's premier places to live, work, and invest.

"Brea has always been a city where local businesses, entrepreneurs, and families have built something special together," Herrera said. "Our small businesses aren't just storefronts—they're the backbone of our community. As a City Council member, I'll work to encourage smart economic development and help local businesses thrive."

Small businesses are a defining part of Brea's identity. Roughly 70% of the city's businesses are small, locally owned enterprises, supporting local jobs and keeping investment within the community. Combined with Brea's vibrant retail centers, restaurants, professional services, and manufacturers, these businesses help make Brea one of Orange County's strongest local economies.

The city is also a regional employment and shopping destination, with approximately 2,500 businesses providing more than 40,000 jobs. Brea's commercial districts—including Brea Mall, Downtown Brea, Brea Marketplace, and Gateway Center—attract millions of visitors each year, generating significant economic activity that supports essential city services.

"Our local restaurants, shops, contractors, service providers, and family-owned businesses create jobs, strengthen neighborhoods, and give Brea its unique character," Herrera said. "When small businesses succeed, our entire community benefits."

If elected as a Brea City Council member, Herrera will focus on:
• Supporting a business-friendly permitting process.
• Encouraging policies that help small businesses start, grow, and remain in Brea.
• Investing in infrastructure that supports economic development and public safety.
• Working with local business leaders to attract quality employers and expand career opportunities.
• Maintaining responsible fiscal policies that protect taxpayers while investing in the city's future.

"Brea has a strong foundation," Herrera said. "Now we have an opportunity to prepare for the future by supporting entrepreneurship, attracting new investment, and ensuring our local economy remains competitive."
Herrera says his campaign will emphasize listening to residents, business owners, and community organizations to develop practical solutions that benefit the entire city.
"I want Brea to remain a place where families want to live, entrepreneurs want to invest, and businesses of every size have the opportunity to succeed," Herrera said. "Together, we can strengthen our local economy while preserving the character that makes Brea such a special community."
